Anura Vidyalaya
Since summer 2010 we have been in contact with this school for boys and girls, situated on the premises of Mantinda Temple School for boys. In younger classes there is coeducation, particularly in the primary section. ( about 2000 students altogether)
In contrast to renowned colleges like Rahula and Sujatha, the catchment area of Anura Vidyalaya is an economically needy one. Founded in 1956, this school has only got modest buildings and poor school equipment. That was the reason for our association to start an immediate two-footed take-off and lend a helping hand.
October 2010: three new science rooms (biology, chemistry, physics; furniture and equipment for science lessons) ground floor
Summer 2011: Home Science Room (fitted kitchen, all kinds of kitchen equipment;)
Summer 2012: English-Medium-Room (big classroom for language lessons; light projector, CD and DVD-player), big music and dance room; first floor
Summer 2013: three new toilets; construction of a small library-building, completely furnished, tables, chairs and shelves with about 300 books; system to lend books;
Summer 2014: Although there were school holidays and exams going on, lots of grade 9 and grade 10 students were ready and willing to attend regularly German lessons with Mrs. Pinger in the morning. Rooms at Anura College could not be used because of exams. Alternatively we used a room on the first floor of our former office building in Rahula Road, where some tables and benches and a small white board could be transported and used. It was worth the effort because of these ambitious students.
January 2015: More German lessons with three big groups; meeting of all our scholarship students and their parents at Anura College on January 16th; visit of most of our scholarship families at their homes, January 18th, in order to learn about their family life and living conditions. A big rack for music instruments in the music and dance room was ordered and put up. Two more scholarship students became part of our programme.
January 23rd, 2015: Foundation stone laying for the first floor on top of the library to provide more facilities. Expected opening: July 2015.
We will go on supporting this school to a bigger extent, particularly by means of more scholarships. There are only few donations given to the association at the moment, but the little money we receive will be used appropriately and for the students’ sake.
